Graduation Time

It is that time of year again; graduation! Not only are children graduating from preschool and kindergarten; eighth graders are moving on to high school, and seniors and taking those first steps into adulthood. More importantly, however, our 3rd and 4th Level students here at ABCIL are graduating as well! Graduation is Thursday, June 9 in our Elk Grove Village office. ABCIL is proud to announce that we have 38 students graduating this year!

We would like to extend a big CONGRATULATIONS to all of our graduates; we wish you the best of luck!

If anyone would like to attend the graduation ceremony, please contact our office. The deadline for registration is tomorrow, Friday, June 3.

Another Blow To Illinois' Business Climate

ANOTHER BLOW TO ILLINOIS' BUSINESS CLIMATE

Illinois Senate passed HB2987 which will codify into law Governor Quinn's Executive Order on Project Labor Agreements. While we have been battling this issue on many fronts to prevent its passage, once again members of our General Assembly voted NOT for what's right for the taxpayers of Illinois but for the special interest groups who fund their campaigns. Please note that NO Republicans voted in support of this bill and that Democrat Senators Garrett and Sullivan were a no vote. Also note that the Senate Sponsor, Senator Toi Hutchinson, received hundreds of thousands of dollars from labor unions during her campaign...please take a look at: http://www.votesmart.org/finance.php?can_id=110916 ere are 15 pages of campaign contributing (going down to as low as $13.00) and the $55K is just on the first page.

Labor and construction contributions total over $225K out of a total of $1.3 million. Considering the Democratic Party donated over $656K, the unions are her biggest campaign contributors. Between the North Central Illinois Laborers District Council and the Illinois Laborers - she received over $55K just in September and October 2010 alone. There are 15 pages of campaign contributions (going down to as low as $13.00) and the $55K is just on the first page.

HB 2987 PLA Alert

Legislative Alert

TERRIBLE NEWS!

Today, even after excellent testimony by ABC members, HB 2987 passed out of the Senate Labor Committee by a partisan vote. The bill will now be on second reading in the Senate and will quickly move to third reading. This could happen as early as tomorrow or next week.

As you know, once signed by the Governor, the excutive order regarding PLAs will become law. PLEASE, contact via phone and email all members of the Senate and urge a NO vote on this terrible piece of legislation. Click here for talking points to use in your correspondance with the legislators. ABCIL has identified a few targeted members of the Senate to really focus your calls and emails. Please be sure to contact the Senate members that are in bold and underlined. In the meantime, ABCIL will be working closely with the NFIB, Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Policy Institute, and other like-minded business groups to encourage their participation in defeating this legislation.

PLEASE ACT NOW!

From Wisconsin and Ohio to Washington, D.C.

I have an urgent update on the Right to Work reforms in Wisconsin and Ohio.

The good news is, the fight for worker freedom is spreading.

On Thursday, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and I will testify on "State and Municipal Debt: Tough Choices Ahead" before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in Washington, D.C.

Thanks to concerned citizens like you, Wisconsin and Ohio have already passed government-sector Right to Work laws and other pro-taxpayer reforms to take back control of state government from the union hierarchy.

Not only that, forced-unionism states like New Hampshire and Missouri are considering Right to Work laws to guarantee the freedom of both private-sector and government workers.

The bad news is, the fight isn't over in either Wisconsin or Ohio.

In Wisconsin, union lawyers and their allies launched a legal assault against Governor Walker's bill, but they were dealt a crucial blow last week.

Wisconsin voters rejected Big Labor-backed State Supreme Court candidate JoAnne Kloppenburg, who appeared to prejudge the legal merits and hinted that she would overturn the law.

But worker freedom advocates must remain vigilant as the union bosses plot recall campaigns against Wisconsin Senate Republicans who supported Governor Walker's bill.

Meanwhile, in Ohio, Big Labor has initiated a referendum campaign to repeal the recently-passed Senate Bill 5, which like the Wisconsin bill, limits government-sector union monopoly bargaining power.

As other states debate the role of monopoly bargaining in state and local government, it's worth remembering that just five short months ago, the dedicated action of Right to Work supporters killed Harry Reid's "lame duck" attempt to impose a monopoly bargaining mandate by federal fiat.

Now, the union bosses are scrambling to protect their government-granted special privileges.

And as we saw in Wisconsin, they'll do anything -- even shut down the schools -- to protect their power.

That's why your continued support is critical. Please chip in with a contribution of $10 or more today so we can keep the heat on Big Labor.

Sincerely,
Mark Mix

P.S. The Committee relies on the voluntary support of individual Americans who believe in our cause and wish to advance our programs.
